The Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) has introduced a new Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) requirements module. This module mandates that all listed companies, banks, financing companies, insurance firms, and category 1 and 2 investment firms commence ESG reporting from the financial year 2024. This module has been developed in reference to various global reporting frameworks such as Global Reporting initiative (GRI) Standards, TCFD and CDSB and requires companies are required to report on 31 ESG parameters. The CBB has suggested that companies to use guidelines and principle provided in the GRI standards, TCFD and CDSB framework to report these parameters. The CBB has recommended to follow a six-step approach to develop ESG reports.
In this awareness session, we will explore the notion of ESG and ESG reporting, global sustainability reporting frameworks, materiality assessment, and CBB ESG module requirements. Furthermore, this session will also discuss the ESG report development process and necessary steps required to develop an impactful ESG report.
